William Detwiler
Attorney
William Detwiler was raised on a farm in Camden, South Carolina. He attended the College of Charleston, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, a minor in criminology, and a concentration in philosophy and law. Will also had the privilege of being a left-handed pitcher on the College of Charleston baseball team.
After completing his undergraduate studies, Will worked with Richardson Construction Company in Columbia, SC, focusing on wetlands mitigation and earthmoving. He then pursued further education at Clemson University, where he obtained a Master’s Degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Resources while simultaneously pursuing his J.D. at the Elon University School of Law.
During his time at law school, Will was a Dean’s Scholar and research assistant. He is currently co-authoring a paper on the Endangered Species Act of 1973, emphasizing environmental science. His law school journey included clerking for the Forsyth County District Attorney’s Office and for the firms Chappell, Smith & Arden, as well as Chappell, Chappell & Newman.
It is an honor and privilege to have Will join the Chappell, Chappell & Newman team and continue following his passion for serving and helping people in Columbia and other South Carolina communities. He practices law in every aspect of CCN’s work, from personal injury to complex litigation.
In his free time, Will enjoys being with family, fly-fishing in the Lowcountry, hunting, and spending time on a tractor.
